Counselling
Welcome to Counselling with Soph at Chambers of Change;
Therapy... But not necessarily as you know it!
My adaptable approach to person-centred counselling allows us to work together to discuss, negotiate and engage in sessions which can have various structures - continue to scroll down through this page to get an idea of our various counselling session options!

What works for you?
I believe that therapy is not one-size-fits-all; what works for one of us, may not work or even become counter-productive for others.
That's why I offer person-centred counselling techniques which are rooted and/or embedded into differing structures.
On this page I introduce many of the various structures to person-centred counselling sessions which I have and continue to offer, I do hope you find something which sounds suitable to your needs!
I am a strong believer of each individual being the ONLY expert on themselves; I also believe that we can always learn, grow and expand, and so if I haven't covered a style or structure of counselling session, or if you don't spot an activity which you think could work for you, then please get in touch and let me know your thoughts or ideas and I will be more than happy to discuss this and have a go...
-
Traditional Face-to-Face Counselling: Person-centred, integrative techniques, fostering empathy, understanding, validation, and clarity in a warm, safe and confidential environment for deep explorations.
-
Walking and Talking Counselling: Connect with nature - enjoy the benefits of traditional talking therapy while experiencing the liberation of the great outdoors.
-
Activity-Based / Free-Spirit Therapy: Tailored to suit each individual, including activities like football, games, building Lego, creating art, or playing table tennis. Ideal for those who find traditional seated counselling daunting or disengaging, this approach helps form safe and trusting relationships through active engagement.

Seated Counselling
Seated counselling is exactly what it sounds like—your time, your space, your comfort.
Before we begin, we'll agree on session details like time, location, and frequency. When we meet, you can sit wherever feels best for you—sofa, floor, swinging chair, or beanbag (dependant on our agreed location) —I’ll match you where you feel most at ease.
In our first session, we'll establish boundaries, confidentiality, consent, and expectations for our work together.
Life rarely gives us uninterrupted time to focus on ourselves—that’s just one reason why counselling can be so powerful. Each 50-minute session is just for you, providing a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
Within our trusting, connected relationship, counselling can bring clarity, healing, growth, and the change you deserve.

Walking & Talking
Counselling therapy provides a safe and non-judgemental space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences; and walking and talking counselling therapy is no different! Except we don't have to be confined to sitting opposite one another in the same four walls - we can take our sessions beyond the therapy room! If the British weather is on our side, we can take a stroll over local fields, lanes, and/or other footpaths provided - equally if the weather isn't on our side, and if you fancy braving a refreshing yet more damp or windswept stroll, I am not one to be afraid of getting stuck in - the ball really is in your court!
Walking and talking therapy can provide a wealth of benefits, not only to our psychological wellness but also our physical health too. Some of which include:
- Exercise - releases endorphins which can reduce anxiety and improve mood;
- Stress Reduction - promotes relaxation due to nature's calming effects;
- Mindfulness - encourages awareness of the present-moment, allowing higher connection with emotional and physical sensations;
- Improved Energy - as with most physical activity, walking can increase energy levels and overall physical health;
- Boosted Creativity, Thinking & Problem-solving - stimulated by movement and scenery changes can lead to fresh insights and new perspectives;
- Increased Comfort - for some clients walking side-by-side can feel less intimidating than seated therapy.

Beyond the Therapy Room
Counselling doesn’t have to mean sitting in a chair and talking—it can be movement, creativity, competition, or play. At Chambers of Change, sessions are shaped around what feels natural to you.
Some people love building Lego while chatting, others want to shoot hoops, kick a football, play Guess Who, design graffiti, or even teach me how to play their favourite game. Whether it’s creating music, woodworking, jewellery-making, colouring, painting, playing with clay, or simply knocking a ball back and forth, I appreciate, first-hand, how important the use of activities as a way to build trust and connection can be.
This isn’t counselling like you’ve imagined—it’s a space where conversations unfold naturally, at your pace, through shared experiences. No pressure. No awkward moments. Just an open, supportive environment where you can explore thoughts and feelings in a way, and at a pace that feels right for you.
